Various types of Rotary Actuators from intelLiDrivers

rotary actuators

Before we focus on rotary actuators, you may wonder; what is an actuator?

An actuator is a mechanical or electronic mechanical device which, when operated electrically, manually or by hydraulics, provides some controlled movements and positioning. It can be classified into two which are linear and rotary actuators.  For linear actuator, as the name implies, it converts the energy it receives into straight-line movements. Its function is seen in positioning applications and for push and pull requirements. Sometimes all you need is a manual knob and a hand wheel before you can operate some liners actuators. Rotary actuators, which is our focus converts energy which it receives into rotational motion. This type of actuator is popularly seen In the control of various valves.
This guide is designed to provide you with a breakdown of the available actuators and what they do. This is important to help you know what you should look out for before you select any one of them for your work or project.
Types of actuators
Linear actuators
  • Electrical linear actuators
  • Fluid Power linear actuators
  • Linear chain actuators
  • Manual linear actuators

Rotary actuators

  • Electrical rotary actuators
  • Fluid Power rotary actuators
  • Manual rotary actuators
Let us focus on rotary actuators

Electric rotary actuators

These kinds of actuators are electrically powered, and they have motors and output shafts which generally all work together to convert electrical energy into rotational motion. Electrical rotary actuators are usually generally used in positions where controlled movements are required for a particular position such as gate or valve. In places where positioning is also needed, such as in industries,  electrical rotary actuators are popularly used. The actuators are removed by means of coils and motors. Current applications of this kind of actuator are in robotics and quarter turn valves.

Fluid Power rotary actuators

This kind of actuators is powered by fluids with mechanical devices which are made up of the cylinder and piston mechanisms, gears and also shafts which all together provides rotational travel although limited in sorts. It converts hydraulics and gas into rotational motion. Fluid Power rotary actuators are used in items which require rotary movement to a certain position before it is controlled.  It has been used in a variety of industries which requires rotational movements and positioning. Air gases and hydraulics are chiefly used to power this kind of actuators. Major applications of the fluid Power rotary actuators iS in opening and closing of doors and also in clamping.

Manual rotary actuators

The manual rotary actuators are basically mechanical devices which makes use of manually rotated screws, and also gears and levers and lastly screws.  They are usually hand operated with knobs, gearboxes, hand wheels and shafts. All these different parts work together simultaneously to provide rotational output.  The manual rotary actuators are majorly used for valves operation. It is due to this that it is also called manual valve actuators.

At IntelLiDrivers we provide you with a wide variety of rotary actuators of the best quality. You can always be sure of the best quality.
