XY Table (2)

XY Table

Two elements known as a platen and a forcer are used in making up an XY table which usually contains motor lead screws, couplings, mounting plates and quite a large top plate and base. The forcer slides over and above the platen through air bearings while moving continuously athwart the platen in linear motion. This action is due to linear motoring elements, which are typically two to four, in response to currents. The variations of an XY table are inclusive of the drive mechanism as well as the ways. The drive mechanisms of the XY table are used for determining speed and smoothness while the ways are used to determine stiffness, straight-line accuracy and load capacity with the table.

There are various factors which are quite essential to an XY table and they include resolution required, repeatability, accuracy, the application's appropriate motor and whether there is need for an encoder or not. In most cases, an XY table is mounted horizontally. They are commonly used in a variety of applications including table sewing, milling and water-jet cutting. Though this is dependent on specifications, an XY table can be used in the assembly of microelectronics, factory automation and laser machining.

An XY table is a rather handy device with useful movements required when encumbered with varieties of projects. An XY table is usually built with three layers and its top is usually a work surface where work to be done is usually clamped. This work has to be clamped correctly to ensure it remains stationery on the XY table. Two layers are positioned beneath the work surface of the XY table and they have similar purposes. The surface of the work is moved in linear motion by each layer. The surface of work is moved horizontally in linear motion by one layer. These layers ensure that the surface of an XY table can move round. The moving layers of an XY stage can be controlled through different methods including getting an XY table manual which is inclusive of cranks that can be spun to enhance the movement of the table. There are two dials that are spun top move different bearings hence moving the surface of the XY table.

There is a shortcoming regarding the surface movement of the XY table manually. The problem arises since the circular motion is not very precise or accurate. Some XY table product categories include linear stages and linear slides with the latter being simple motion devices which are composed of moving carriage and stationery base. Linear stages slides of an XY table are inclusive of a drive mechanism for providing precise and controlled positioning along the linear axis.A lift XY table is generally used for raising and positioning the work pieces to enhance ergonomic access. A lift XY table is primarily used for load positioning and material positioning and lifting in certain applications like automotive, construction, power and electrical service, manufacturing and telecommunications. Lift XY table contains important specifications including platform width, vertical lift and platform length.
